FrontpagePlus v0.1.4
Jan 24, 2010 | In FrontpagePlus
FrontpagePlus is a Joomla extension that allows to create more than one frontpage in your site.
What is a frontpage ?
It is a page showing a few articles you have selected. Usually, only the beginning of the article is shown and you can click on Read more ... to have access to the full content.
Joomla core functionality is quite limited: if you try and create more than one page of this type, their content will be the same.
How is it working ?
FrontpagePlus is extremely simple and clever; it relies completely on Joomla core frontpage functionality.
The extension allows to select a section or a category when you create a menu item to show a frontpage (shown hereafter).
The installation is flawless and without any risk for your site. There is no modification of the database model.
You'll find it on this site: http://www.nonumber.nl
Problems I have met
Unfortunately, there is no handling of the breadcrumbs. Fortunately, there is a solution for that. I'll talk about it in my next post.
Another problem: it does not work when turning on SEF URLs. The articles are not displayed when 'Read more ...' is clicked.
FrontpagePlus in action
Click images to enlarge / click again to reduce.
3 menu items are created to show 3 different frontpages.
For each menu item you select a category (I used the sample data provided in Joomla installation)
You then check all the articles you want on the frontpages (keep in mind their are shown only if their category is selected).
Done ! We now have 3 different frontpages.
You just have to click on Read more ... to read the full text.
